Art, crafts and gourmet grub at the Mowhay Cafe and gift shop in Trebetherick

Located in a rather unassuming spot off the main road from Rock to Polzeath, the Mowhay Café in Trebetherick is always a must visit when I’m visiting the area. Housed in a converted farm building, this brilliantly run family business cleverly combines two of Cornwall’s most famous exports, art & crafts and gourmet grub, serving up both amidst a relaxed rural setting.

Expertly run by mother and daughter team Sandy and Amie, the Mowhay offers a selection of homemade sandwiches, cream teas and cake throughout the day, and a delicious a la carte menu most evenings. The Mowhay source all their produce locally wherever possible. Favourites include meat from Gary Dutton in Wadebridge, Doom Bar Beer from Sharp’s brewery down the road in Rock and Cornish Orchards cider and apple juice from Liskeard.

Pop by on a sunny day after a potter on the beach and enjoy a cream tea or slab of cake in the garden area. This lovely sheltered spot provides the perfect suntrap in the summer months and is a great place to escape the hub-a-bub on the beach. Before you leave, do make sure you have a peek in the delightful shop. With a gorgeous selection of pottery, paintings and jewellery all created by local artists, you are sure to find your perfect piece of Cornwall.
